About Cheryl
Cheryl Schlenker, a resident of Media, PA, received a B.S. in Design from the University of Michigan and an M.Ed in Special Education from Temple University. She has traveled and lived abroad in Asia and the Middle East, and has worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer and a Special Reading teacher. She has served on the board of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, including 2 terms as President, and is a member of the artists’ collective of the Media Arts Council.
Her works have been displayed in local and juried international exhibitions, and she has signature membership in both the Philadelphia Water Color Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society. She has won numerous local and national awards, and has worked to support emerging artists in her community.
Artistic Statement
My love of painting includes finding the surprising colors that exist in everyday subject matter, mixing media to enhance the individual properties of each one, and finding joy in compositions of contrast and color that suggest realities through abstracted shapes. I am always looking for that silver lining.
